The Festival of Navigation

The Festival of Navigation (Navigium Isidis) was an ancient Roman festival that celebrated Isis as the ruler over safe navigation, boats, fishing, and the final journey of life. At this festival, after an elaborate parade, a Ship of Isis filled with great offerings of incense, flowers, libations and small shrines was sent out to sea.

I do like the idea of sending out ships with offerings to Isis. And with that in mind, I'm sharing here a video tutorial on how to make a paper boat that floats on water....

Navigium Isidis

When Egypt became part of the Roman Empire, Greek merchants brought the worship of Isis from Alexandria to Rome and invoked Her as inventor of the sail, patron of navigation, and ruler of the waves.

Possibly the most well known Isiac festival of the Roman world was the Navigium Isidis, celebrated on the 5th of March. As part of the festivities, a a festive carnival procession was performed in honor of Isis, and the Vessel of Isis, laden with offerings of precious spices and milk libations, is launched.

Here is a colorful and detailed eye-witness account of the procession and the ceremony:

About Holy Water

Many assume that the term "Holy Water" indicates church-based water only. This is an oversimplification of a complex concept. The Roman Catholic Church did not invent the concept of Holy Water but adopted it from earlier Pagan use. Various Pagan shrines possessed virtually identical Holy Water fonts. Holy Water is a crucial component of many magical, religious and spiritual traditions, although what constitutes Holy Water and how it's made varies greatly.

Holy Water may refer to any one of a variety of products:

• Jordan River Water
• Church blessed water
• According to British folk tradition, rain falling on Holy Thursday - Ascension Day - may be gathered and used as Holy Water. ...

Charging Holy Water

1. Collect rainwater, ideally within a stone vessel.
2. Prepare yourself prior to preparing the water; bathe in Fiery Wall of Protection, Dragon's Blood, or lots and lots of salt, while reciting psalms and/or sacred verses.
3. Prepare the water sky-clad (nude) or in clean ritual clothing. Where ritual clothing is not used, fresh, clean clothing, preferably white and made from natural fabrics is favored....

Latin Holy Water

Ingredients:

• sea salt
• water (not bottled - tap water is fine)
• Cross or Crucifix
• Latin Prayers (see below )

Add your salt to the water - 2 parts water to 1 part salt. Place your cross beside your water. Now pray over your water using these prayers. Say them in latin, the translation is provided so that you will know what you are actually saying..

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen
