There is no use buying or finding a good luck charm only to put it away and forget it. It should be kept close, in a purse or pocket, or worn around the neck, and it should be handled often, always with a feeling of happiness and hope.
The greater the certainty that the charm will bring good luck, the more effective it will be...

Protection From Crocodiles
The Egyptian Book of the Dead suggests carrying the plant sweet inula to ward off crocodiles both living ones and those that haunt the spirit realm.
- Wear it in a charm bag to protect against actual visitations.
- Sleep with the herb in a dream pillow or beneath your pillow if unfriendly crocodiles are infesting your dreams.
From Burma we have this...

Papyrus Hieroglyph Protection
Crocodiles, like snakes, are simultaneously fearsome, dangerous creatures and potent symbols of spiritual and psychic protection. Pregnant Isis, after all, hid in the crocodile infested swamps of the Nile Delta. It was the safest spot she knew.
In ancient days, the papyrus plant, which once lined the Nile, was a hieroglyphic emblem for Lower Egypt, especially that Nile Delta swampland. It also served as a protective emblem from crocodiles, lending new meaning to Moses' cradle on the Nile, formed from papyrus. This symbol (shown here) can be used in a variety of ways to create a protective talisman....

Averting the Evil Eye
The belief that some persons had the power of injuring others by their looks, was as prevalent among the Greeks and Romans as it is among the superstitious in modern times. The ὀφθαλμὸς βάσκανος, or evil eye, is frequently mentioned by ancient writers. It was supposed to injure children particularly, but sometimes cattle also.
Various amulets were used to avert the influence of the evil eye....

Herbal Amulets
Herbs are often worn or carried in order to tap their specific powers. Following are several traditional herbal amulets, some of which are questionable, some fanciful, but all fascinating and potentially useful.
- To See Ghosts: Carry lavender and inhale its scent.
- To Allay Fear: Carry a mixture of nettle and yarrow.

Turquoise Protection Amulet
The ancients regarded turquoise as a powerful magickal aid to ward off misfortune, illness, and the evil eye. You can use turquoise to make your own amulet for protection.
To begin, during the waxing Moon take a piece of blue turquoise or an item of blue turquoise jewelry and hold it in your hand for a moment. In your mind's eye, picture a blue light surrounding you. Hold the stone to your heart, and breathe on it to charge it with your power...

The Crossbones Amulet
The crossbones amulet is excellent for removing negative energy, and breaking a hex or any negativity that is or has been sent your way.
The amulet itself is made from two small bones taken from chicken wings. The chicken bones actually absorb and hold negativity. The bones are tied together with black thread in the shape of a solar cross (an equal armed cross).
The procedure is as follows:
Using your basic altar layout, bring with you the following:: two bones, black thread, a white candle, a bottle of ...

Egg Charms:
Start with raw eggs. My favorite tool to pierce the shell is a small nail ~ for some reason, I've never had good luck piercing the shells with needles.
Pierce the narrow end of the shell with a tiny hole. At the wider end of the egg, use the nail to pierce a wider hole. This is the trickiest part of the operation, but I've been lucky and only lost a few eggs. Just handle the eggs gently, and once you make the hole in the wider end, use the tip of the nail to gently enlarge the hole.
Then, for those of you who have never done this before, simply place your lips over the smaller hole and blow. (No, you don't want to know what it looks like! LOL)...

Amulets and Talismans
Many gypsies carry amulets and talismans as good luck charms.
In gypsy lore an amulet is an item from nature that is either naturally, or artificially (through ritual), charged with magical power. A typical amulet would be a stone with a hole through it or a rabbit's foot.
Talismans, on the other hand, are man made objects charged with magical power by the gypsy sorcerer....

Making a Parik-til for Luck and Success
A Parik-til is the Gypsy version of a medicine bag. To create a parik-til, a small drawstring pouch is made in the appropriate color for the intended purpose. Into this goes various little objects: herbs, stones, feathers, sometimes a charm or piece of paper inscribed with a simple spell. This list is endless; it is only important that the objects seem sympathetic to your purpose.
