Current News

I am currently in the process of migrating the content shared here to a series of new websites hosted at shirleytwofeathers.com.

As you explore this site, you may find links to a "page not found" instead of something cool and magickal. For this I apologize. I am very working hard behind the scenes to restore those pages along with a link to their homes on my new website where they can be viewed in full.

Wishing on a star

This is a variation on the simple wishing on a star that many of us indulged in as children. In the Gypsy tradition, it goes like this:

Wish upon the first star you see in the night sky, on any night of the year...
Your wish will come true if a second star appears shortly afterward.

Brotherly and Sisterly Love

To draw children in a family closer, as well as to stop them from bickering, take water from a stream or river. Bring it to a boil on a fire built with fresh twigs. Write the name of each child on a bay leaf and let them simmer together in the water. Ask Venus (The Goddess of Love) to bless them.

Using a pin, inscribe the names of the children on a pink candle and then light the candle, so that its flame may flicker over your spell....

Deter Unwanted Visitors

To avoid being revisited by an unwanted caller, all you need is salt. Immediately after they have made their departure, sprinkle salt, which is regarded as a purifier and a protection against evil forces, on the ground where they said goodbye.

Trick or treat!

Here we have a complation of the longest list of folkloric supernatural creatures:

"What a happiness this must have been seventy or eighty years ago and upwards, to those chosen few who had the good luck to be born on the eve of this festival of all festivals; when the whole earth was so overrun with ghosts, boggles, bloody-bones, spirits, demons, ignis fatui, brownies, bugbears, black dogs, specters, shellycoats, scarecrows, witches, wizards ...

Focus the Energy

All psychic and magical activity uses zee energy that is transformed and directed through the chakras. Sometimes, usually under very emotional circumstances, this can happen unconsciously. For instance, the truly heartfelt prayer of someone in great need or danger can focus the energy with miraculous results, but for most magical purposes the zee must be directed through the chakras consciously. Practicing the Chakra Activation Technique will make it much easier to do this.

When one feels a strong emotional reaction to another person or situation, a sudden rush of love, joy, protection, sorrow, fear or intense dislike, the feeling is not just in the mind but is felt in other parts of the body such as the chest or the pit of the stomach. Learn to take note of these feelings, and you will find that they originate in one or more of the chakra areas.

The Gypsy knows that these raw emotions are powerful stuff when directed properly, especially love and hate. That is why a Gypsy curse or blessing is so effective.

God Energy

It is an inspired truth, common among most pantheistic and so-called primitive religions of the world, that there is a great primeval intelligence, an energy that gives life and form to every particle of the universe. The archetype gods and goddesses are all part of this great intelligence, each having dominion over a different aspect of life....

Your Heart's Desire

You have met someone you desire. According to the Romanies this spell will ensure that he or she responds.

First, gather a fresh rose and two red candles, and find out the time of sunrise the next morning. Just before you go to sleep, place a red candle on each side of the rose.

The next morning at sunrise, take the rose outside or sit by an open window facing east, keeping the rose in front of you. Inhale the perfume and say aloud:

This red rose is for true love.
True love come to me.
Now go back indoors and put the rose in its original position. Light the candles, and imagine love burning in the heart of the one you long for. Keep the candles lit day and night until the rose fades. (If they are extinguished, the incantation will be broken.) When the rose is dead, pinch out the candles, and bury the rose.

Gypsy Love Song

Gypsy Love Song

Tropical night, Malaria moon
Dying stars of the silver screen
She danced that famous Gypsy dance
With a hole in her tambourine

I was young enough and dumb enough
I swallowed down my Mickey Finn
She'd hijacked a few hearts all right
I went into a tailspin

Don't sing me, don't sing me, don't sing me
No more gypsy love songs
Don't sing me, don't sing me, don't sing me
No more gypsy love songs
Don't stir it up again

I put my arm around her waist
Says she, young man, you're getting warm
The room was going somewhere without me
And she laughed as she read my palm

Stillborn love, passionate dreams, pitiful greed
And the silver tongues of the tinker girls,
Who throw their book of life at you
But don't know how to read

Don't sing me, don't sing me, don't sing me
No more gypsy love songs
Don't sing me, don't sing me, don't sing me
No more gypsy love songs
Don't stir it up again

She was third generation Transylvanian
I was the seventh son of a seventh son
I begged the band don't play that tune
Please don't beguine the begun

When I awoke, she'd cut and run
She stole my blueprints and my change
Just a horseshoe and a note on the bed
And all it said was--strange

Don't sing me, don't sing me, don't sing me
No more gypsy love songs
Don't sing me, don't sing me, don't sing me
No more gypsy love songs
Don't stir it up again

*I found this little song in one of my files,
the music wasn't with it and I don't know the author.
If anyone reading this happens to know about it,
please post so I can give due credit.

Zee Meditation

Find a place that has a comfortable feel for you, a spot that feels welcoming, preferably outdoors. It is good to lie on the grass, or lean against a tree or rock, but sit on something comfortable if that feels better. If it is more convenient to be indoors, try to fill your room with harmony and life. Have growing things about you. Burn pleasant incense or oil, maybe a candle or two if that pleases you. The main thing is to feel relaxed.

Don't try to clear your mind of thoughts: to try to do so consciously often has the opposite effect of making one tense. Let your mind range where it will. If you feel like looking around, look around! Notice the flowers, the sound of the birds, the wind through the leaves, the distant noise of traffic and people. Gradually your thoughts will quieten....

The First Step

The first step towards performing any magic, or fortune-telling, is to recognize and harness the zee. This needs much less effort than you might expect, in fact it takes complete relaxation.

On a village green in Norfolk, there is a bench carved with the words,

"Sometimes I sits and thinks,
sometimes I just sits."

The Gypsy people spend much of their time doing hard physical work, but when given the chance they are very good at both the above-mentioned activities, or should I say inactivities. You may wonder what this has to do with magic, but it is surprising...

The Zee Energy

The life force, the first primeval god, has been rediscovered several times in recent years. It has been called by various names: prana, chi, viril, telluric energy, earth energy, the ether, among many others. Just as the blood in our bodies permeates every corpuscle of flesh but is concentrated in the veins, so the god energy is concentrated in ley lines, or the dragon paths of feng shui. These currents of energy are known to most cultures of the world by various names....

Winning the lottery

The Romanies often like to gamble, and they advise using this spell for the lottery.

Light one green candle for each of the numbers to be selected. Sit quietly and ponder the flames, allowing each flame in turn to suggest a number.

Fill in the form according to the numbers that come into your head. Sprinkle the sheet with nutmeg and then snuff out the candles. Leave the form dusted with nutmeg for a day before thoroughly brushing it off.

Amulets and Talismans

Many gypsies carry amulets and talismans as good luck charms.

In gypsy lore an amulet is an item from nature that is either naturally, or artificially (through ritual), charged with magical power. A typical amulet would be a stone with a hole through it or a rabbit's foot.

Talismans, on the other hand, are manmade objects charged with magical power by the gypsy sorcerer. A typical talisman would be a piece of parchment or a coin, which has been inscribed with specific symbols, or words of power.

Amulets and talismans are usually carried on the gypsy's person in a cloth or leather pouch, known as a "putsi" or "parik-til". You might see a gypsy woman wearing a putsi hanging from a cord around her neck. To the non-gypsy this looks like nothing more than an accessory to her colourful dress, but in fact it would likely contain amulets and talismans, and other magical items.

Recognising the Power of the Universe - part 2

Cosmos

Science has worked hard to uncover the secrets of the universe. Through modern techniques, what once was mysterious has become open, even commonplace. As a result the world has become rather two-dimensional, lacking the hidden depths that the human psyche needs to grow and flourish. For too many people life has lost its purpose; it has no meaning. they work hard, overeat, worry too much about their diet. They may take a holiday once or twice a year, and bring up children, but too often there is an empty space where their souls should be....

Recognizing the Power of the Universe - part 1

In order to use the great power that permeates every atom of the universe and breathes life into the world around us, we must first learn to recognize it. Too often we take the workings of nature for granted and ignore, or are ignorant of the everyday miracles that enable life to continue on this small planet of ours.

Eclipse Sequence

Living and working as we do in the controlled atmosphere of houses, offices, factories or shops, travelling in the comfort of motor vehicles, we lose touch with the rhythm of the seasons and phases of the moon that are so important to us all for food and growth. Even people engaged in agriculture are in a constant battle against nature instead of working with her, especially since intensive livestock rearing and the growing of engineered vegetable crops are now the norm....

Gypsy Names

Each gypsy had three names:

The first was a secret name whispered into the baby's ear shortly after birth and again when the child reached puberty but never spoken aloud at any other time and never told to anyone else.

The second was a gypsy name, used between gypsies only.

The third was a local name, usually chosen to reflect the general names being given to non-gypsies in the country where the gypsy resided. This was the name the gypsy was to use publicly, with a gadje (non-gypsy), or for on official documents.
